Work in this paper resulted in one of the world’s first energy efficiency and carbon-footprint studies on a real cellular network (Vodafone Network in London). The resulting EPSRC Knowledge Transfer collaboration was between 3 international companies. Project lead is Simon Fletcher (Simon.Fletcher@emea.nec.com), Manager of Future Network Architectures at NEC. Other partners are Vodafone (Jon Turk, Research Manager), and Fujitsu (Sunil Vadagama, Assistant Division Manager for Network Systems Research). The outcome of the collaboration was one of the first examples modelling the carbon footprint of a real cellular network in London.
