Additional information

This paper was part of the work for a successful Ph.D. by C. Li with the same title, and led to recognition of the techniques to be used in a current project on “Blind navigation” funded personally by a Warwick Alumnus, David Tran, of Hong Kong to the value of £50,000 in which the concepts of range finding and communications signal processing are being combined. The work aims to produce an aid for blind people to help them identify where they are in relation to other objects, and would be made commercially available. The technology could also apply to vehicles guidance systems.
