Additional information

The normal design procedures presented in structural building codes, such as the EN 1993, do not fully acknowledge the specific characteristics of mill buildings, creating uncertainty and problems for design. This paper presents applied research on aspects related to the design of industrial buildings for stability. The major findings of the research are summarized in the form of design tables for determining the effective lengths for several column end conditions. These tables can be easily implemented in a spreadsheet workbook that provides a number of benefits for engineering application.
