This study formed support of FDA submission that was unanimously supported by the panel (http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm259061.htm ), prior to clinical launch of ceramic-on-metal hip replacements, and was funded by industry (DePuy International Ltd, a Johnson and Johnson company, contact Isaac gisaac@its.jnj.com also co-author) through a technology partnership. The paper demonstrates that ceramic-on-metal hip replacements are more resistant to wear under clinically relevant hip simulator conditions compared to metal-on-metal hip replacements. Invited to present at Chinese (Xiamen, China 21/11/2009), Korean (Daegu, Korea 14/05/2010) and Dutch (Utrecht, Netherlands 14/11/2011) Hip Society on topic.
