High-power and wavelength-tunable operation of an Er,Yb fiber laser using a volume Bragg grating
Significance of output:
A simple and robust technique to generate high-power, narrow linewidth and tunable fibre source operating in the eye-safe 1550 nm wavelength band is described. This work has been followed up by several research groups internationally; including University of Central Florida (USA), established a strong link with Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and has provided some of the initial result to a collaborative project between University of Southampton and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (Dr Seongwoo Yoo, seon.yoo@ntu.edu.sg) that received S$1M from A*STAR (Singapore), 2012–2015, to develop fibres of next generation and demonstrate routes for power scaling of fibre lasers.
