High-average-power second-harmonic generation from periodically poled silica fibers
Significance of output:
This paper demonstrates the highest ever reported wavelength-conversion efficiency in an optical fibre, and represents a 14-fold improvement over previously reported results. The breakthrough in performance has inspired the use of the technology in several other application-areas including entangled photon generation for quantum communications, and for the development of compact fibre-sources for medical applications through wavelength-conversion. It directly resulted in the FP7 EU-grant ‘Charming’ (Project-reference: 288786, 2011-2014, €2.76M). The work has generated >15 journal articles and international conference presentations in the different application areas mentioned, including several invited presentations (SPIE Photonics-North’2012, two at OSA Advanced-Photonics-Congress’2012, All-Russian Conference on Fiber Optics’2009).
