Significance of output:

The pulse energy from femtosecond fiber amplifiers is limited by nonlinearity and reshaping the output pulse is not possible due to optical power limitations. We showed that shaping the input pulses with an adaptive closed-loop system improved autocorrelation quality and increased the peak by a factor of 3.4. The work has inspired leading groups (Jena, CREOL) and led to Opt. Exp. Vol.16 p15074. We supported Dr. Gerhard Holger.Gerhardt@cancer.org.uk (Cancer Research) to include pulse shaping for fluorescence microscopy in his successful EU fellowship ”REshape”. US Air Force have just accepted our $1m proposal to pursue femtosecond fiber laser research.
