Significance of output:

This paper is the first comprehensive overview of the operating principles and performance of high power fiber lasers and an authoritative vision of the likely future evolution of this technologically and economically important field. The paper was solicited as part of the Optical Society of America's celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Laser (LASERFEST) and was the most downloaded paper from this well-regarded journal in both 2011 and 2012 (downloaded 7300 times now in total). It has become the standard introductory reference to the field, further cementing the reputation of Southampton University as a world leader in this technology.
