Fast design space exploration of vibration-based energy harvesting wireless sensors
Significance of output:
The paper presents the first solution to optimising energy performance in a complete complex sensor node powered by a kinetic energy harvester. Design of Experiment (DoE) based modelling was used for the first time in this field to successfully overcome the known problem of prohibitive CPU times; the approach was verified through extensive comparisons with hardware description language simulations and experimental measurements. The methodology has extensive potential and, in electronic design, we have shown that it can accelerate performance optimisation by up to three orders of magnitude.
