Significance of output:

The first implementation of gas cell based on a Hollow Core Photonic Bandgap Fibre in a practical gas sensor, achieving x17 improvement on conventional bulk-cell sensors. The work clearly demonstrates the potential of such cells for all-fibre gas sensors with extremely compact footprint, with strong implications in terms of ease of deployment, adaptability to different environments and low cost. From work funded by AWE Ltd. (No.30019317, 10/2007-10/2008, £125,117). it resulted in an invited talk at OFS 2009 and paved the way to further industrial funding (AWE contracts: No.30114805, 10/2009-3/2010: £33,323; No.509835101, 01/2011-06-2011: £68,946 - contact Dr Scott Mc Cullogh, scott.mcculloch@awe.co.uk).
