Growth of crystalline garnet mixed films superlattices and multilayers for optical applications via shuttered Combinatorial Pulsed Laser Deposition
Significance of output:
A collaboration between 2 UK groups, we show the first conclusive demonstration of combinatorial growth of excellent quality single crystal superlattice films, with up to 1000 distinct layers.
The significance is demonstrated via the subsequent successful EPSRC platform grant (EP/J008053, 2012-2016, £1.1M, PI= Eason), presentations at international conferences (EMRS, France, 2010; COLA, Mexico, 2011) and subsequent demonstration of material growth of single crystal Bragg reflectors (presented at CLEO/QELS 2012, USA, May 2012). Sloyan was rewarded by the award of a Multi-disciplinary Post Graduate Showcase Prize (Southampton) and an EPSRC Doctoral Prize fellowship (2012-13 £50,000).
