High-power linearly-polarized single-frequency thulium-doped fiber master-oscillator power-amplifier
Significance of output:
A master-oscillator power-amplifier source based only on Tm-fibre gain stages is described, yielding the highest power (~100W) reported to date for a linearly-polarised single-frequency laser source operating in the two-micron wavelength band. This result serves to underline the huge potential of two-micron fibre lasers for further power scaling to address a growing range of applications. It has been the subject of four invited papers at leading international conferences including OFC and Photonics West, and has paved the way for additional funding in excess of £1.3M from various sources (AHRC/EPSRC, EU, UK industry) to further advance two-micron laser technology.
