Significance of output:

This approach, pioneered by my group, combines the unique advantages of cladding-pumped fibre lasers and crystal-based lasers to achieve performance characteristics that could not be realised via component laser technologies alone. It is especially well-suited to generation of high pulse energy and high average power in the eyesafe wavelength regimes around 1.5 and 2microns. Our work in this area has received >£750k from EPSRC, USAF, UKMOD and has attracted a further ~£500k in a successful EUFP7 project bid. This invited journal paper follows four invited presentations at international conferences including a plenary talk on the topic.
