Significance of output:

Outlines the development of fibre lasers and the leading role that the ORC has played in the global development of fibre lasers since their invention, to the multi kW level of today and prominence in the market (Market share 20%; CAGR: 29%). The paper is recognition of this role and gives the key development points. The work has led to £1M/annum funding from our own start-up company (SPI Lasers), a joint SPI/ORC laboratory, a short pulse fibre laser spin-out (Fianium) and a leading role in the EU ICAN project designing the next CERN accelerator using 1 million fibre lasers.
