Additional information

We developed an holistic prediction methodology showing that the real-world energy requirements for electric vehicles may be 40% greater than typical published figures because of the influence of vehicle parameters, driving style, operating conditions and auxiliary power draws. These findings render many low carbon vehicle policy assumptions questionable. Our in-use energy predictions were broadly in accordance with our energy monitoring results from the MINI E Project UK (TSB TP11/LCV/6/I/BF045J) and our 3-month study of a Nissan Leaf. This paper was the 3rd most read article in the journal by June 2013.
