Additional information

This publication describes the synthesis and study of a new radiolabelled molecule for imaging imidazoline-I2 receptors in vivo using Positron Emission Tomography (PET). I2 receptors are located in the brain and are known to be disrupted in a range of neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s Disease. These studies, performed in pigs, represent the first ever successful PET imaging of I2 receptors and are in the process of translation in to a human study. This new radiotracer has the potential of enabling early diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, before structural changes develop that are seen with standard imaging techniques.
