Additional information

A highly cited, landmark publication (562 citations, Oct 13) detailing a new mechanically-applied physical therapy, providing what no pharmacological intervention has achieved: the first successful therapy for brain damage due to birth asphyxia. This has been implemented across the world. Edwards led the 15-year programme of hypothermia research from animal work, computational analysis of cerebral heat transport, and pilot studies, to this definitive trial. He was PI on the MRC grant funding the work, strategic lead of this major international trial and member of the management and writing committees. Azzopardi was responsible for daily management. Strohm was the trial co-ordinator.
