Additional information

This study evaluated the role of FDG-PET/CT scanning in the management of HIV-associated multicentric Castleman's disease, a rare lymphoproliferative disorder. This work builds on O’Doherty’s pioneering work describing the use of PET in patients with HIV. The study demonstrated the utility in defining the extent of treatable disease, sites to biopsy and a method for assessing response. As a result of this study, PET is now routinely used in this patient group to improve diagnosis and follow response. O’Doherty led the PET component of this study. This paper is published in one of the two leading journals in nuclear medicine.
