Additional information

By effectively beating the optical data with a tuneable laser in the Bragg grating we can achieve Bessel induced wavelength reflection sidebands which can reflect light and hence achieve a wavelength conversion. An additional discovery here is that these sidebands carry the data phase information allowing intensity and phase information to be translated in the same device. This new patented concept working with University College of London and the ORC in Southampton is being exploited with major financial contributions from Oclaro and Gooch and Housego.
