Additional information

This paper describes a vanadium hydrazide gel, the first example of a solid state material in which the Kubas interaction is the principle means of hydrogen storage, thus creating a new catagory for hydrogen storage solids distinct from physisorption and hydrides. The reversible volumetric activities are also the highest observed at 77 K for any porous material - surpassing metal organic frameworks (MOFs) by 60% - with retentions at 298 K of performance of 30%, comparing to 10% for MOFs. Because of this paradigm-shifting breakthrough it was the focus of a feature article by Geoff Ozin in Materials Views.
