Double-weighted statement

Freedom Burning makes an original contribution to historical scholarship on slavery and the British Empire. It is the result of intense archival work in repositories across North America and the United Kingdom. Primary sources consulted include the personal papers of politicians and campaigners; a wide variety of periodicals and newspapers; government papers; and the records of the anti-slavery society. By considering anti-slavery ideas across periods and theatres usually treated separately, Huzzey provides a complex argument to challenge conventional assumptions and contribute to theoretical understanding of ideology and imperial culture.
