Diane Urquhart is the sole author of one chapter: ‘Ora et labora: the Women’s Legion, 1915-18’ (pp.1-16). She is joint author, with Gillian McIntosh, of the Introduction (pp. xix-xxiv). The idea for this book was conceived by Urquhart, who invited McIntosh to be co-editor. Urquhart and McIntosh invited the submission of abstracts and then identified appropriate contributors, and provided them with clear guidelines to ensure a consistent analysis throughout the text. The copy-editing and proof-reading were undertaken jointly by Urquhart and McIntosh.
