Currently the maximum operating temperature of conventional phosphoric acid fuel cells is 200°C. We developed a new core-shell composite electrolyte which extends the operating temperature of phosphoric acid based fuel cells to 250°C. This makes the cells more tolerant to impurities in the fuel, such as carbon monoxide. One of the referees of this paper commented ‘(this paper) is interesting in development of a new electrolyte for the PAFC’ (email:power@elsevier.com, manuscript No. POWER-D-09-02692).
