Co-authored chapter with Prof. Arabella Plouviez, this research considers the impact of the web and social networking on the commissioning and exhibiting of photography within the art world. Drawing on a number of contemporary exhibitions and practitioners that have tested out different approaches to engaging potential audience through their participation and have explored the potential and the definition of the ‘networked image’, the chapter consider the implications and strategies used to differentiate between the ‘professional’ and the ‘amateur’ within the context of the web.
