Additional information

<21>This paper was one of the first significant introductions to the mainstream HCI research community of complex network analysis of geographic social networks. The paper’s methodological and empirical contributions informed subsequent work investigating behaviour in public spaces (e.g. [Brown et al, 2013, Larsen et al, 2013]). The work reported in this paper also led directly to an EPSRC-funded collaboration with UCSD and Ericsson (see [Mitchell et al, 2012]) and to EPSRC and Royal Society funded collaborations with Vodafone that in turn resulted in several publications (e.g. [Lovett et al, 2012]) and patents (e.g. [Pollington et al, 2013]).
