Additional information

<20>This paper presents an important extension of problem solving theory, relevant to a wide range of behaviour including human-computer interactions. This work is the first to analyse metacognitive control of stopping rules in problem solving tasks. The work has influenced research on metacognition in other tasks (e.g., Davelaar’s work on memory search (Cognitive Systems Research, 2013), which adopts our rational approach to stopping rules, as well as new, unpublished work on problem solving (e.g. work by Ackerman, grant proposal to Israel Science Foundation). Memory and Cognition is a lead journal of the Psychonomics Society, USA,.
