English Renaissance Translation Theory : This volume is the first attempt to establish a body of work representing English thinking about the practice of translation from Caxton through to the 1620s. The texts are accompanied by a substantial introduction, explanatory and textual notes, and a glossary and bibliography.
This extensive edition (200,000 words) is the first attempt to establish a body of work representing English thinking about the practice of translation in the early modern period. The 56 textual sources presented cover the period 1473-1622 and include previously unedited material, manuscript sources, and translation from Latin. They are accompanied by a substantial introduction, explanatory and textual notes, and a glossary and bibliography. Research for the edition, which was commissioned by the MHRA, has taken approximately five years.
