Additional information

This paper reports for the first time, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) operating at atmospheric pressure in air capable of modifying the surface properties of polymers in such a way as to control protein adhesion and cell response thereon. This work provided the basis for the development of three separate inventive embodiments of the atmospheric pressure plasma surface processing that have been protected by an International Patent Applications, WO2012107723 WO2013017866 and WO2013018021, respectively. This set of platform IP is currently being exploited by an Ulster spin-out company, Surf-Spec Ltd. (http://www.surf-spec.com, Company Number NI616669 CEO - Byrne E-mail Cormac@surf-spec.com;Tel 07736838476).
