Additional information

While analysing stretch forming processes for Bombardier Aerospace it was noted that the material had a propensity for serrated yielding in the thermodynamically unstable solution heat treated condition. The research work provided a means to quantify the impact of serrated yielding on the efficacy of the analysis process. Through the use of these results it was possible to improve the finite element model prediction and reduce the number of processes steps in the stretch forming operation at Bombardier Aerospace (Gary Moore, Senior Staff Engineer, Strategic Technology, Aerospace, NIACE Building, Bombardier Aerospace, Airport Road, E-mail: gary.moore@aero.bombardier.com, Belfast Tel. +44 2890462994).
