English abstract

One of the under-examined features of the critical legal studies movement is its development of a unique literary style or aesthetic. This chapter argues that the narrative processes employed by critical legal scholars are not mere stylistic devices but key instruments in the advancement of their political causes; they fulfil genuine critical purposes. The paper goes on to argue that these literary disruptions or subversions come at a price. By inflicting a series of narcissistic blows to mainstream liberal scholars, the critical movement may turn out to alienate the very constituency that it needs most to rally to its cause.
