This output is based on a detailed analysis of the archive of the Society of Legal Scholars, which had never been used for research purposes before. The archive is extremely extensive, comprising some 43 boxes of documents, all of which had to be examined. At the time the archive was largely uncatalogued. It took 18 months to gather the data; much longer than fieldwork would generally take for one project.
