Significance of output:

This paper describes a miniature ultra-high precision sensor for ocean metrology. The state-of-the-art for conductivity and temperature measurements (CT) is a large machine costing >£12,000. We developed a new miniature, very low cost method to measure temperature to 1mK and salinity to 0.01%, matching the performance of large scale systems. These high precision sensors open up a new field in environmental metrology. 5 patents have progressed to PCT (PCT/GB2013/000392; PCT/GB2013/000390; PCT/GB2013/000393; PCT/GB2013/000391; PCT/GB2013/000394) and the technology has been licenced to an international sensors company (confidential), with the first devices expected to be in production in Q3 2014.
