<01> Final paper in a long term study of hot carriers in semiconductors, particularly the non equilibrium hole dynamics in dilute nitrides. This is the only such study in dilute nitrides reported in the literature. The work has led to the discovery of high frequency instabilities in p-doped dilute nitrides for applications in terahertz emitters and triggered research in the field by other international groups. N. Balkan was awarded a DSc degree by the University of Essex (only three such awards were ever given by Essex) for a body of work in this area.
