Additional information

<28>Phylogenetics is concerned with the development of algorithms and mathematical theory to study evolution with applications ranging from comparative genomics to drug development. Motivated by the fact that estimates for evolutionary distances between organisms might be unreliable or missing, we develop novel theory to tackle the following problem: In a tree, for which leaf pairs do we need to know the distances so as to uniquely determine the tree? Some of the results have yielded algorithms, which we have implemented in the mainstream Analysis of Phylogenetics and Evolution (ape) package. Google Scholar citations for the ape package Oct. 2013: 1422.
