<23> An approach involving the novel combination of established techniques was taken when approaching the problem of retinal vessel segmentation in this work. The publication describes an initial benchmarking approach to ensure complete validation of the work so that any future techniques developed within the group (for example, the Ensemble technique) could be compared against this initial approach. My contribution to the paper is as the primary supervisor (Director of Studies) of the PhD student (Fraz) who implemented the algorithm.
