Additional information

This paper on placement of a pelvic binder has influenced military trauma practice. The paper has been cited in a practical, evidence-based guide for early management of trauma (JBJS Br 2012;94B:446-453). The technique has been proposed for introduction to the Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) course (Int.Orthop. 2013;37:1335-1339), is emphasised in orthopaedic device brochures (http://www.sammedical.com/sam_sling.html#pro), and is being taught on the Military Operational Surgical Training (MOST) course for deploying operating theatre teams. The findings were presented at the Combined Services Orthopaedic Society (CSOS) 2011 meeting, and won the 1st prize (Bonner).
