The effects of tactile feedback and movement alteration on interaction and awareness with digital embodiments
<20>The introduction of large displays in collaborative environments enables new digitally-enhanced ways of collaborating; however, ignoring fundamental human aspects of team’s activity such as awareness and touch avoidance can result in suboptimal and awkward interfaces. This paper suggests and empirically supports a key connection between team member behaviour, physical contact and awareness. The paper was published at ACM SIGCHI, the leading venue for human-computer interaction research and recognised as one of 2013’s top 5% contributions. This research is critical for designers who want to build the work and play environments of the future.
