<27>Outlines social media analysis methods to cope with complexity and size of social media data by combining computational and social science approaches. Widely reported study of use of Twitter during 2011 Summer Riots, based on 2.6M tweets provided by Twitter. Collaboration with The Guardian on visualization of rumour spread won a Google Data Journalism Award. Subsequent work funded by JISC (development of generic workbench), ESRC/Google (study of hate speech), ESRC (computational modelling of perceptions of crime), AHRC (understanding cultural value of BBC WS and British Council). Voss led development of computational approach for information flow analysis and collaborative infrastructure.
