Vibrations of wind-turbines considering soil-structure interaction
Slender and highly flexible offshore wind turbines are sensitive to dynamics. Very little is known about the long term behaviour, but it has become apparent that soil-structure interaction can change the dynamic behaviour of the structures over relatively short time spans during severe weather events. This paper presents a combination of theoretical and experimental study to quantify such changes. This work and associated papers led to Professor Bhattacharya being invited to lead-author an ICE book on offshore wind turbines, review on foundations for RWE Innogy, lecture in China (keynote) and at an OES/ICE industry meeting on future wind-turbine foundations.
