<04>An output of e-Sense, an EU funded project. MAC and physical layers of WSNs are specified by the IEEE (IEEE 802.15.4 specifications) and recognised as worldwide standards. However, there is no common standard for routing protocols for WSNs. Although many protocols have been proposed which satisfy the routing requirements of WSNs, all suffer from routing loops in networks. This paper proposes a new routing protocol that prevents or minimises these loops. In addition, it interacts with the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC and physical layer specifications to achieve flexibility, adaptability, stability and the high degree connectivity required for any WSN routing protocol.
