These results allowed the first author to receive the 2010 Michael Miller Medal awarded to the best PhD thesis of the Institute for Telecommunications Research (Australia). As a result, the first author received the prestigious Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council. This work realises power savings of 15 dB in the block-fading channel, the channel model encountered in GSM, WiFi and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), used in most upcoming broadband standards.
