Additional information

This paper introduces the important new concept of hybrid calibration models for 3D non-contact measurement and demonstrates the use of such a model in dynamic recalibration of a 3D surface measurement system. The significance lies in the fact that it allows the practical measurement of very large structures with high x-y resolution using fringe projection techniques. Without this method fringe projection systems have to maintain a constant geometry. In contrast this method allows 3D measurement heads to be mounted on the arm of a robot actuator and ultra-high precision control over the arm movement is no longer required.
