A real-time, 3-D musculoskeletal model for dynamic simulation of arm movements.
This is the first description of a musculoskeletal model with a realistic level of complexity to run in real time. This allowed previously unreachable “user-in-the-loop” type experiments for the development and testing of neuroprosthesis control algorithms and command sources. Chadwick et al., 2011 (J. Neural Eng. 3:034003) was based on a simplification of this model. This was a key deliverable from NIH funding (NICHD N01-HD-5-3403) awarded to Kirsch, Chadwick and others, and led to the development of the methods described in van den Bogert et al.,2011 (Procedia IUTAM 2:297-316). Chadwick is the lead author on this paper.
