Additional information

This paper presents the design of a novel MEMS rate integrating gyroscope, which avoids issues of noise and bias associated with “rate” gyroscopes. The potential performance envelope of the device taking into account fabrication tolerances is characterised. The work reported in this paper has led to collaboration with UTC Aerospace Systems on defence applications for these type of gyroscopes (contact: Chris Gregory; Chris.Gregory@utas.utc.com), and will be continued through a new TSB project (Enhanced Gyro Control) led by UTC.
