Additional information

This paper presents a validated direct finite element modelling methodology to determine the elasto-plastic behaviour of commercial titanium foams used for posterior lumber interbody fusion devices. The method is shown to be superior to current state of the art analytical models and provides significant insight into the post yield behaviour of the foams. This methodology is of direct use to the designers of such foams (i.e. Synthes – manufacturer of titanium foams and a co-author of the paper - Imwinkelried.Thomas@synthes.com) as well as other workers in the field who routinely cite this work.
