Double-weighted statement

The book’s research comprises empirical work conducted from 2009-2012, including ethnographic data collected in schools as part of funded research exploring physical activity experiences (Change4Life School Sport Clubs and National School Sport Week evaluations), qualitative research with adults and reflective observations. Four chapters, (3, 4, 5, 6) each draw on distinct research that could each have been developed as stand-alone papers. However, a single monograph was produced to develop the overarching theme (the complexity of defining fun and its significance in meaningful engagement in sport and physical activity) more convincingly than a series of papers in unrelated journals.
