Additional information

The technology (Patent http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/WO2010055322 pending) is at the heart of the new paradigm of smart grids for integrating renewables, electric vehicles and energy storage via operating inverters, the common interfacing devices, to behave like synchronous generators (http://smartgrid.ieee.org/september-2013). It was awarded Highly Commended at 2009 IET Innovation Awards and led to the award of an RAEng Senior Research Fellowship and an EPSRC Grant EP/J001333/1. It has directly led to close collaborations with industry, including Rolls-Royce (Global Head of Electrical Power and Control Systems, Rolls Royce), plenary/keynote talks at IEEE PEDG 2013 (http://www.pedg2013.org/) and IEEE Green Technologies 2014 (http://www.ieeegreentech.org/conference-program/keynote-speakers/).
