This interdisciplinary project between engineers and surgeons at St Bartholomew’s Hospital was funded by a MRC-EPSRC Discipline Bridging Initiative grant. It led to the award of a Phd degree to Dr Yankai Liu who I co-supervised (2011). The modelling aspect is continued by Dr Yankai Liu in Zhengzhou University (China), who has just won a grant on the research project “Atrial mechanical properties-from shear experiment” from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2013.
