Additional information

The result of DEFRA and industry funded work to develop a novel method of treating cuttings from drilling of oil exploration wells, to prevent discharge of oil pollution to sea. It described the new technique and how it can be applied in practice including the key practical considerations for making it work safely on an oil drilling platform. The design has been the subject of patents GB2007/004344, EP20070824569, US 12/514,983 and is approaching commercialisation. Several stages of prototype have been built and final system is expected operational Q1 2014 (NOV Brandt, contact via sam.kingman@nottingham.ac.uk). Contribution of researcher: PI for Greenwich (collaborative with Nottingham University).
