Facility for fast neutron irradiation tests of electronics at the ISIS spallation neutron source
This paper reports on an international collaboration using the “VESUVIO” beamline at STFC ISIS. Based on the first neutron radiation effects experiments undertaken at VESUVIO by Platt and industrial collaborators during the DTI-funded project “SPAESRANE”, it incorporates benchmarking against established facilities (notably Los Alamos, USA) through “LANSCE-equivalent” measures introduced by Platt. The study proved the value of VESUVIO for single-event-effects testing, led to the creation of a new international user group and helped secure funding for the new £5m beamline, Chipir.
